Leadership Northwest is a program designed to develop strong leaders in the Northwest Oklahoma City Metro Area who are informed and prepared to take on leadership roles in business, government, and civic and non-profit organizations serving our community.

Graduates tell us Relationships are the most valuable thing they gain from the program. During each session leaders in business and community dignitaries invest their time to develop class members. Plus, the camaraderie amongst classmates can create community partnerships and lifelong friendships.

Program participants enjoy Personal Growth through individual participation and group interaction, which help them discover their leadership potential and gain new insights into themselves as individuals. No matter how long you have lived here, every participant increases their knowledge of our community.

The scope of Leadership Northwest will engage you with new ideas, as it reinforces and energizes your commitment to community service. Employers tell us graduates are considerably more effective in their business and community work.

Seeing New Perspectives. Participants are selected for their diversity of experiences; therefore you will hear viewpoints that are deeply felt, strongly supported, and perhaps different from your own. You will have many opportunities to share your experiences and beliefs with others who have not heard your voice before. As Leaders, it is vital to listen and respect others, and to seek opportunities to build consensus in addressing challenges.

ABOUT LEADERSHIP NORTHWEST

Leadership Northwest is a program developed by The Northwest Oklahoma City Chamber and coordinated with an Advisory Board of graduates of the program. Since its inception in the early 1990’s,  over 300 people have participated in the program. Leadership Northwest helps participants learn about the cultural, social and economic forces that impact business and the community and encourages its graduates to get involved. This year marks Class 31.

One of the primary goals of the program is to inform, motivate and better prepare its graduates to then take on leadership roles in service to the community. From September to May, the Leadership Class attends full-day monthly sessions focusing on different aspects of our community, including education, public safety, economic development, health care, government, non-profit organization and more to gain an awareness of the challenges and opportunities that exist in this community, as well as to discuss and develop potential solutions.

Each Class is responsible for developing and executing a service project benefitting our community. Past projects have supported Bethany Parks, Reaching Our City summer youth programs, support of various public schools, community gardens at local YMCA, an update for the YWCA Domestic Violence Shelter, developing marketing materials for a program to provide resources for underprivileged students to attend college, an animal adoption event, and updating the Chamber Office.

Each spring the class members are recognized at the Chamber's "Community Leadership Luncheon", which features an inspiring message from a community leader and brings program alumni back to encourage the new graduates in their leadership journey.
